Michael J. Farina was born in Providence on July 11th 1978 and has resided in Cranston his entire life. He attended the Cranston Public School System graduating from Cranston West with honors in 1996. Michael participated in several activities in school including Student Government, Athletics, Clubs, Drama and Choir all while maintaining good grades graduating with honors in the top percentage of his class. He met his wife Ruthanne in high school and created a lasting relationship, marriage and family. They have two children Michael and Isabella, who both attend Cranston Public Schools. He graduated from Nichols College in Dudley, Ma in 2001 achieving a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics and Finance. He participated in Student Government, Athletics and Clubs all while maintaining good grades graduating with honors in the top percentage of his class. Since college Michael has had a successful career in financial analysis, budgeting & forecasting, high level strategy and advanced negotiations leading large teams to drive value for the organizations that employ him. Michael chose to get involved in his community and 2012, ran for and won a city wide seat on the City Council, winning re-election in 2014, 2016 and 2018. For the 2014 term Michael served as the Council Vice President and for the 2016 and 2018 terms he was elected by his peers to be the Cranston City Council President and preside over the leadership of the council. In 2013 Michael was appointed to a leadership position on the Board of Directors for CODAC, a Cranston nonprofit focused on Behavioral Health and Addiction. Michael continues to be advocate for our community and very active in the giving of his time to youth sports and local charities. Michael is also a 2019 graduate of the Leadership Rhode Island program based in Providence, which trains leaders to drive for positive change for Rhode Island’s future.
